We’ve recently added in-house heat treatment to our growing production capabilities, with the installation of a Wellman batch furnace at our manufacturing facility in Wolverhampton.
This investment strengthens our end-to-end control over production and allows us to heat treat components internally with full traceability and repeatability. It supports our ongoing focus on quality, speed, and delivering a more streamlined service to our customers. This investment is part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening our in-house production capability.
Why Heat Treatment?
Heat treatment is a critical stage in the production of many components — especially fasteners and precision-machined parts. It’s used to alter the mechanical properties of metals, improving toughness and ensuring they meet the required performance standards for demanding applications.
Bringing this capability in-house reduces reliance on external subcontractors, shortens lead times, and gives us more control over scheduling and quality assurance.
Furnace Overview
Our Wellman front-loading batch furnace is designed for tempering operations, with the capacity to load up to 1,000 kg per cycle. It features:
Roller hearth charge
Vertical uprising door
Thermal brick lining for efficient heat retention
Roof-mounted circulation fan and extraction
Process timer and over-temperature control
We've also enhanced the furnace with additional modern upgrades:
Nanodac temperature controller and data logger
AMS survey and thermocouples for compliance and consistent temperature distribution
Full reporting capability to provide furnace charts for every batch
Practical Benefits
Faster Turnaround
By handling heat treatment in-house, we remove the delays associated with third-party processing and transport — helping you receive finished parts sooner.
Greater Control Over Quality
We now monitor and document every batch with logged furnace charts, traceable thermocouple readings, and AMS-compliant processes, ensuring repeatability and full transparency.
Increased Scheduling Flexibility
With the furnace located on-site, we can integrate heat treatment into our production schedule more efficiently, reducing bottlenecks and improving responsiveness.
Suitable for Heavy or High-Volume Components With a 1,000 kg load capacity, the furnace supports a wide range of batch sizes and part types — ideal for both one-offs and regular production runs.
Continued Investment in Capability
This furnace forms part of our broader investment into creating a fully equipped, self-reliant production environment. By expanding our in-house capabilities, we’re able to offer faster turnaround, maintain tighter control over process integrity, and continue delivering high standards to our customers across every project.
Energy Bolting manufacture a diverse range of special fasteners, machined components and associated products.
